At Prelude Prep, curriculum resources are selected to support our instructional approach, not to define it. We prioritize materials that are rigorous, knowledge-building, aligned to standards, and supported by strong evidence of effectiveness.

All curriculum resources used at Prelude Prep are selected intentionally and reviewed regularly. While specific materials may evolve over time, our commitment to structured, coherent, and meaningful instruction remains consistent.


How We Choose Curriculum

Curriculum decisions at Prelude Prep are guided by a clear set of principles. We select resources that

Pre-Prep Curriculum

Early Childhood Learning

In Pre-Prep, instruction is designed to support early development through purposeful play, language rich experiences, and foundational skill building.

Literacy and Early Learning
Prelude Prep uses Teaching Strategies Creative Curriculum for preschool.

This curriculum supports
• Language development and early literacy
• Social and emotional growth
• Early mathematics and problem solving
• Exploration through play and hands on experiences

Instruction is guided, intentional, and developmentally appropriate, helping children build strong foundations for future learning.


Kindergarten Through Grade 2 Curriculum

Literacy and Knowledge Building

Prelude Prep uses EL Education in Kindergarten through Grade 2.

This curriculum supports
• Strong reading instruction grounded in phonics and language development
• Knowledge building through rich, content based texts
• Writing, speaking, and listening across subjects
• Project based applications that deepen understanding

Literacy instruction is aligned to our Literacy Instructional Framework and emphasizes daily reading, writing, discussion, and evidence based thinking.


Mathematics

Prelude Prep uses Bluebonnet Learning as a core mathematics resource, alongside Math for Meaning style story problems.

This approach emphasizes
• Conceptual understanding and procedural fluency
• Problem solving and mathematical reasoning
• Sense making through meaningful story problems

Instruction aligns with Research Based Instructional Strategies and supports depth of understanding rather than memorization.


Science

Students receive science instruction through PhD Science, taught by a content specialist.

Science instruction emphasizes
• Inquiry and investigation
• Building scientific knowledge and vocabulary
• Application of concepts through hands on learning


History and Geography

Prelude Prep uses Core Knowledge History and Geography to support knowledge building in social studies.

This curriculum emphasizes

Grades 3 Through 5 Curriculum

Literacy and Knowledge Building

Prelude Prep continues to use EL Education in Grades 3 through 5, with instructional structures that evolve to support growing independence.

In Upper Prep, Prelude Prep continues to use EL Education, supporting advanced reading, writing, discussion, and analysis.

Instruction emphasizes

• Academic discussion
• Application of literacy skills across subjects


Mathematics

Prelude Prep uses Bluebonnet Carnegie, continuing the focus on conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and problem solving.


Science

In Upper Prep, science instruction is grounded in OpenSciEd and is taught by a dedicated content specialist.

This curriculum engages students in investigating real world phenomena, analyzing evidence, and developing scientific explanations. Instruction emphasizes reasoning, discussion, and application of scientific concepts to build deep understanding and prepare students for advanced science coursework.


History and Geography

Students continue with Core Knowledge History and Geography, and in Grade 7, students study Texas History using a dedicated Texas History curriculum aligned to state standards.


Piano Instruction

Prelude Prep offers piano instruction using the Leila Fletcher Piano Method, supporting musical literacy, discipline, and focused practice.

Piano instruction emphasizes
• Reading music
• Technique and practice habits
• Perseverance and attention to detail
